The vases in this painting are both pieces of handmade pottery that I acquired and I love. Besides depicting the vases and orchids in the combination of man-made and nature-made, I wanted to highlight the complementary colors of the turquoise and magentas and purples. I tried to lead the eye in a somewhat circular composition to give a feeling of motion in this quiet painting.
