Watercolor of a Sea Holly (Eringeum planum) in its cobalt/indigo glory painted against an Arts and Crafts-inspired design for an original Sea Holly-esque repeating pattern a la CFA Voysey and William Morris. The challenge for me was to set a controlled background against a looser foreground. As a landscape architect, I also enjoy lettering and so the ribbon title was an important part of the composition.
