A Sculpture Dreams

Inspired by the "les Nubians" the relief sculpture at the Museo d' Orsay by Ernes Barrias.
Kirsty is a model who appears often in my works. She is my friend and muse, and for this painting she flew to Verona Italy to pose for me. When I was back in the studio the marble walls of the city did not do enough to ignite my imagination, and I began to envision her in front of the high relief sculpture I had photographed at the Museo d'Orsay by the lesser known but incredible sculptor Louis Ernest Barrias. There was a synergy that evolved, a clicking where it seemed that the sculpture was becoming aware of her. Thus the pike the male is holding pierces her flesh. It is as if the stone has come to life, and in the lucidity of its dream it imagines itself as being able to touch and effect our reality.
