From the steps of El Encanto Hotel in Santa Barbara, I saw the moon rise over the city , and the contrast of the shapes of the trees, lights beyond, and the moody atmosphere drew me in. I wanted to make a painting that reached to heaven, that underlined the beauty of both our world and the universe.
