Spring Alley, Plein Air Watercolor
Spring Alley
The directness of the plein air work is most attractive to me. I use the dry brush technique to explore the texture of rough watercolor paper. Elements of abstraction are presented in the mostly figurative work. The motives I paint have deep subconscious emotional feeling on me driving me to express it in the paintings.
Whether I am painting a figure or working more abstractly, there are similar issues to solve, such as composition, light and shadow, balance of line and color. Above all, each work must be itself. There must be first an idea or a feeling that the work suggests, and then all the steps must be done for it to take its own personality.
