Where The Fallen Lie
Painted in watercolour and soft pastel, ‘Where The Fallen Lie” is a gorgeous poppy field in Flanders on land of previous WW1 and WW2 battlefields. The painting was prepared for ANZAC Day in Australia in memory of the artist’s WW1 trench experiences and lifelong post traumatic stress suffered after witnessing so many deaths of his fallen brothers. The red pastels used are from the Henri Roche (Paris) collection, Degas’s first supplier of pastels. No one does cocquelicot reds like La Maison Du Pastel Paris.
