This is a limited pallet plein-air piece I did several years ago. I was inspired by the dramatic difference in color and temperature between the shadow on the old deserted home and warm brilliant glow from the sunset. I kept the details soft and to a minimum so as not to distract from the beautiful lighting effects. The tree in foreground felt almost translucent against the background and I really wanted to express that.
I use a limited pallet of primarily Gamblin Oil paints on a double oil primed linen canvas on a sealed birch 3mm panel. I build my own panels using acid-free archival glue.
